Don't Give Away Your Eyes
We often look outside ourselves for validation, authenticity, and wholeness. We “give away our eyes” — not trusting ourselves or relying on other's opinions for approval.
Some of this is natural. There are power dynamics, and we do rely on others for our well-being at times. But, as the verse in the Book of Equanimity Case 16 "Mayoku Thumps His Staff” says, “Right and Wrong — watch out for that trap.”
How do we practice with this in a time when right and wrong — karma and crisis — seem quite acute? How do we respond?
